Main Functions: Diosmin is an anti-inflammatory and a flavonoid glycoside that reduces venous hyperpressure.Diosmin also reduces capillary hyperpermeability and expression of endothelial adhesion molecules (ICAM1, VCAM1). Diosmin effectively inhibits the P-glycoprotein (Pgp)-mediated efflux in cells.Diosmin is currently a prescription medication in some European countries, and is sold as a nutritional supplement in the United States and the rest of Europe.Diosmin is used for treating various disorders of blood vessels including hemorrhoids, varicose veins, poor circulation in the legs (venous stasis),and bleeding (hemorrhage) in the eye or gums. It is also used to treat swelling of the arms (lymphedema) following breast cancer surgery, and to protect against livertoxicity. It is often taken in combination with hesperidin, another plantchechemical.
